Questions
Questions before you call
How much does a native garden or a basin cost?
It depends on how much ground we shape, how many plants go in and how hard the digging is. The services page lists what moves the price. You get one written price after the site visit.
How soon can you start, and how long does it take?
The written estimate gives a start window and a finish window. A basin and a few shrubs can take days; a whole front yard takes weeks. We schedule planting for fall and spring when we can.
Are you licensed and insured?
Our Arizona contractor license is in the footer of every page, with a link to the state's lookup. Ask us for a certificate of insurance and we'll send it.
What happens at the site visit?
Kristen or Julio walks the yard with you. We measure, mark where water comes in and leaves, check how deep we can dig and write down what you want to keep.
How do I pay?
A deposit holds the start date and covers the plants and rock ordered for your job. We bill the rest in stages as the work goes in. Check, card or bank transfer. The terms are on your estimate.
Do you work in the rain, the heat or a freeze?
We don't dig in a storm, and in the hottest weeks we start at dawn and stop by early afternoon. Rain is useful: we watch where water goes and adjust the plan. A hard freeze pauses planting.
What should I do before you arrive?
Mark any plant you want to keep and tell us where the irrigation valves and any buried lines are, if you know. Note where water runs after a storm. A photo from the last rain helps.
Which plants should I choose?
We pick from the native list for your sun, soil and slope. Tell us what you like and what you don't, and we plan the rest. Trees go in basins; cactus and agave go in well-drained gravel.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Julio and Estrella do, and every page of this site has a Spanish version. Ask for Spanish when you call or fill out the form.
Which towns do you serve?
Tucson and the towns around it, from Oro Valley to Sahuarita and east to Vail. The Where we work page lists them and the places we don't go.
Still not sure?
Call or write, and Kristen or Julio will answer.
